I started Inspired Path Counseling in the summer of 2019. I have been (and currently am) operating out of a little office on Edgewood Road in York, Pennsylvania. What made this place special was that it had a backyard space that allowed me to create a therapy garden and I have been able to offer eco-therapy to my clients. The downside is that Edgewood Rd. is loud and limits our ability to use mindfulness techniques in the garden, the parking lot is small and there are a limited number of offices to use. I have been participating in a shared office partnership with Sound Healing and Express and Connect Therapy. Both practices are run by amazing and talented therapists, Laura Tauzin and Angela Linebaugh. It has been wonderful to build our practices together and lean on one another for help as we built up our practices. It was also wonderful to have support when the pandemic hit.
During that time I, like many other therapists, experienced an increase in my case load that continues to this day. I also had to wear the hat of childcare provider during the day, and this led to 14 hour work days and six day long work weeks. In the wake of the pandemic, I came to the realization that the level of need for mental health services was on the rise, specifically for our youth and their families. My current practice parameters are not able to meet this growing need. Our community needs qualified and well-trained mental health practitioners. I have been a practicing therapist for over fifteen years. At this point, I feel that I am ready to offer support to the next generation of mental health providers. I am ready to build a practice that is supportive of clinicians while providing people the support they need to find mental wellbeing. TO Offer my colleagues and clients a secure and healing environment that allows for the use of expressive therapies, mindfulness and eco-psychology. So, I decided that I was not only going to rebrand my business, but I was going to grow my practice into something that would be able to fit the needs of our community better.
I have spent the last two years developing a strategy to achieve this goal. I have worked to gain clarity around the specific needs of a unique community like York County. We are a diverse community that has lively city neighborhoods, quiet suburban neighborhoods, and local hard working farm families. With such a distinctive mix of people I wanted to offer an equally distinctive methodologies of mental health support. I wanted to find a name that encompasses the breath of methodologies I employ in the treatment I provide and have settled on the name Cultivating Consciousness Therapy Service. Cultivating and growing our mental wellbeing through expressive therapies, eco-therapy and mindfulness.
I intend to keep an office within York city limits for the foreseeable future and I’m also interested in building a larger location in the south-west York area of PA. The area is home to multiple schools and has a lack of licensed mental health professionals. It is an unfortunate reality right now that in York we are seeing an increase in suicides since 2007, raising 58% in 10 to 24 year olds according to the Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS). There is a reals real need for licensed therapists in South York.
I am building a team of dedicated individuals to support me in purchasing a farm plot to develop into therapy offices that not only give Cultivating Consciousness Therapy Services the room to expand the quality and availability of services but also allow for like-minded health professionals such as Occupational Therapists and Psychiatry services to rent office space. The new property will also allow for the development of eco-therapeutic space on the property, increasing the opportunity for a more immersive therapeutic experience.
Clients will benefit from a selection of outdoor therapeutic spaces that will be designed to meet unique therapeutic needs. Sensory garden spaces will support clients in developing mindfulness skills, decrease stress and allow a client to be more present in the therapeutic relationship by removing barriers that can occur in traditional therapy spaces. Play and laboratory gardens will support younger clients as well as clients in recovery from Brain injuries and PTSD by allowing clients to engage in expressive play and explorations, developing awareness of consequences, increasing empathy and compassion and help brain development and repair thought interventions that include bilateral stimulation, mindfulness, and nature engagement.
Cultivating Consciousness believes that creating a safe respectful and accepting environment for clients allows them to build a sense of wellbeing and improve their overall emotional health. By taking a whole person approach to supporting clients are able to develop skills, deepen their insight, increase resiliency and connection to the world around them while they are strengthening their sense of self. Working to support children, teens and adults to find mental and emotional wellbeing through skill building, expressive art therapies, mindfulness, and eco-therapy.
